How Booking, Placement & Pricing Work

FIND THE RIGHT PROGRAM FOR YOUR CHILD

  1. Choose a medium and learning goal
Select Drawing, Digital Art, Animation, or Custom Curriculum. Tell us which skills your child would most like to develop and choose a flexible lesson or package.

  2. Complete the placement questionnaire and submit artwork
Tell us about your child’s age, experience, previous instruction, and equipment or software familiarity. Upload two or three recent examples of their work. Animation learners may submit a clip, storyboard, or sequence of drawings.

  3. Receive the placement confirmation
We review the learner’s demonstrated skills and determine the appropriate program level and internal starting point. Parents receive the placement recommendation, materials or software requirements, and first-lesson information.

  4. Begin one-to-one instruction
The learner follows the established curriculum with individualized explanations, pacing, feedback, and support.

A CLEAR PATH FOR EVERY LEARNER

Young artists often love creating but feel unsure about what to learn next or how to move beyond their current abilities. Our curriculum provides a structured path from foundational skills to more advanced techniques. We review each learner’s current work and recommend the most appropriate starting point, helping them feel challenged without becoming overwhelmed.

The curriculum sequence remains consistent, while private instruction allows the teacher to adjust the pace, explanations, demonstrations, practice, and feedback for the individual learner. Families seeking help with a goal outside our established programs may request a custom curriculum.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I choose my child’s level?
Parents choose the medium and may identify a learning goal. MJS assigns the appropriate program level after reviewing the placement questionnaire and submitted work.

What if my child is a complete beginner?
Complete beginners can start in the appropriate beginner program. Work samples may not be required when a learner has no previous experience.

What if we don’t have artwork to submit?
We can provide a short, standardized placement activity for the learner to complete.

Can an experienced learner skip the beginner program?
Yes. Learners may begin at an intermediate or advanced level when their submitted work demonstrates the necessary foundational skills.

Are the standard lessons customized?
Our standard programs follow a tested curriculum. The teacher individualizes the explanations, pacing, demonstrations, and feedback while maintaining the program’s established learning sequence.

Can we request a completely custom curriculum?
Yes. Custom curriculum may be available for specific artistic goals, projects, portfolio preparation, techniques, or software skills. Custom requests are reviewed before confirmation and involve an additional fee.

Can my child change mediums later?
Yes. If the learner wants to move into another medium, we may request new work samples to determine the appropriate program level.
